About

Men in Sheds Bexley is a community group and creative hub. The shed is a space for socialising and sharing an interest in all things to do with making and woodwork! Located in the grounds of Christ Church Erith, the shed comprises of two portable cabins which includes a wood workshop, kitchen and bathroom.

Activities are led by the members. In the workshop, members can make what they like, learn from one another and skill share. We have made all sort of items in the shed, from bird boxes to bug hotels and wooden toys. We manage a small community garden space on the grounds of the church. Activities, however, are not limited to the shed. We have social outings twice a year and a Christmas meal.

The Men is Sheds project is established in the local community, regularly holding market stalls, taking on commissions and hosting outreach work. All funds raised from these activities acts as our fundraising and goes back into the running of the shed.

What is Men in Sheds?

The idea for the Men in Sheds project came from Australia. They identified a need for community groups aimed at older men to socialize and discuss wellbeing. Aiming to increase the overall health of older males, the Men in Sheds project was formed. Facing a similar need in the UK, we adopted the project and now there are over 500 sheds registered.

The ethos of the shed is not only a place to learn and share woodworking skills but more importantly provides a space for peer support and wellbeing. Men can come into the shed to have a chat, laugh and share stories over a cup of tea.
