Activities, however, are not limited to the Shed. The project has delivered many outreach workshops over the course of 2022. These sessions are delivered by the members, alongside the Project Officer, to teach basic woodwork skills and get creative. The Shed this year has delivered three workshops at The Exchange Erith, decorating bird boxes, creating wooden animal bunting, and making bamboo wind chimes. Moreover, in October the Shed ran four workshops at Danson Youth Centre for a group of 12–18-year-olds. During the four sessions the group made items for themselves re-using pallet wood. Makes included wooden shelves, planters, and decorative signs.
Whilst the outreach sessions provide creative activities for Bexley residents, it also enables the membership to engage in their local community, increase confidence and feel pride teaching their skills. One member stated, “I found it very enjoyable working with younger people again. It is a way of keeping my mind from drying up. It was a joy to see the club members responding to the input from our team. The fact that the members had to use tool they may never ever seen, let alone use, was wonderful to see. I think I may have got more from the project than the members”.
After a successful year of delivering outreach workshop, they will be back again running more next year!
