Repurposed Planter Challenge

THE CHALLENGE

The Age UK Bexley project, Men in Sheds, is challenging Bexley residents to make planters and garden decorations for their community garden by only using materials you have at home! From children to over 70s, all are welcomed to take up the Repurposed Planter Challenge.

You might decide to create painted rocks, plant pot sticks or small planters made from reused materials. This is your chance to get really creative! If you have spare plants that could also be donated we would be very grateful. Check out our challenge information booklet for more ideas and guidance.

Our project pinterest may also provide some inspiration: https://pin.it/1bqmvy8

THE GOLDEN RULES

Only use materials you have at home. This could be repurposing scrap wood, plastic packaging or old wooden drawers. The possibilities are endless!

Please also take extra care when making your creations. We don’t want any accidents which would put a burden the NHS.

WHY ARE WE SETTING THIS CHALLENGE?

Work on the new community garden at Christ Church Erith had just started at the beginning of March. With the project closed for the foreseeable future, this will have a significant delay to the garden completion date when we reopen. This garden is very important to the Shed as there is currently limited space for our members to socialize outside in the sun. By creating planters for us and donating plants, it means we will be one step closer to setting up the garden when we reopen.

This challenge will be a great activity for all to get creative with during this difficult time.  Some of the biggest issues we are finding when calling regular users of our services are loneliness, a lack of motivation and boredom. Looking after your mental wellbeing is very important during this time. Giving yourself a fun and creative task like this will give a focus, distraction and hopefully ease some isolation boredom!

SPREAD PLANT JOY TO THE COMMUNITY

As well as donating to the Men in Sheds project, we want to spread joy to older and vulnerable people in isolation throughout Bexley. Please feel free to also gift your creations to vulnerable neighbours. This might brighten someone’s day whilst in isolation!

SEND US YOUR PHOTOS

We would love to see your creations before donating. Please send your images to emily.willey@ageukbexley.org.uk
